I'm so proud of this last concert set with the Juneau Symphony.

This project speaks to something deeply important: what it means for an orchestra to truly collaborate with the community it serves. We were honored to premiere a powerful new work by Tlingit composer and Juneau Symphony member Edward Littlefield, with orchestration by Rory Stitt, created in partnership with the Sealaska Heritage Institute and Perseverance Theatre.

Ed is currently composing the first opera in the Tlingit language, Kutulagaaw: The Tlingit–Russian Battles, premiering this fall. Commissioning and performing this orchestral overture was one way we could support that larger vision and help bring this story to life.

It was especially meaningful to share this stage with members of the Tlingit community, including musicians within our own orchestra. This kind of collaboration is at the heart of the work we want to do in Juneau.

Alongside this premiere, performances of Joseph Bologne's Overture to L'Amant anonyme, the Haydn Trumpet Concerto with legendary Michael Sachs, and Copland's Appalachian Spring made for a moving and unforgettable program.

Grateful to everyone who made this program possible!
