Wind Ensemble Concert Shines Light on Lesser-Known San Francisco History

This was such a special concert. Thank you SFCM for the article, and to SFCM students for their artistry!!!

In addition to David Maslanka's iconic Symphony No.4, we presented music by Francis Johnson, Henri Tomasi and the world premiere of a new arrangement by Ursula Kwong-Brown. Brown's "Cover the Walls", is inspired by Chinese poems that were carved into the walls of the immigration detention center on Angel Island.

Congratulations to Austin Talbot, winner of SFCM's concerto competition, for performing a fabulous Tomasi's Trombone Concerto. Additionally, thank you to everyone, espeically assistant conductor Donald Lee II on the stellar performance of my latest adaptation for wind ensemble of a work by 19th-century American composer Francis Johnson.
